Enjoy your week everyone, and a huge shout out to one particular amazing runner who has just moved from Sydney to Gold Coast and is all set to run her debut half marathon: the Brisbane Twilight Half in just over a week's time. I'm so excited for you!!!! You're going to do brilliantly!! Sorry I can't be there but I will be thinking of you and cheering you on from here in Newcastle!!! Go smash it and have fun, Beautiful!! :) ;) xx
This past week saw way less running (and training in general) than usual. I (shockingly) had a full three rest days where I didn't move much at all (due to a mixture of too much study and work to get done plus various ongoing health concerns, boo...). So, I would have thought when I finally got out there for my longer Sunday run of the week that my legs would be feeling fresh. But: not the case. Did it matter? Nope. Despite my easily-fatigued legs, it was just oh-so-f*#ken fantastic to be out running off-tarmac again: despite the tough gradient. The weather was perfect: slightly cooler than recently, and the rain, although drizzled at first, cleared for a spectacular morning. No better way to start the day than an awesome trail run with an awesome group! (NB: steeper gradient - not shown here!) Earlier in the week I had one other mid-week (slow, cruisey, solo run), a strength / weight training session, and I finally made it back to Wootervals: where a drenching good time was had by all, doing hill repeats from Bar Beach carpark, in near torrential conditions. This was some soaking wet fun! I actually love a hill session, although would rarely do one solo. Gotta love a running group or few...: So, quite a low-kilometre week for me this week. Will need to up my training (and specifically head to the trails a lot more) over the next couple of months. UTA in May is really not that far away!! Excited and nervous simultaneously. All of the feels.... But: small steps, like anything, and progress not perfection. When I'm achey af like I am today after the run yesterday, I need to remind myself to take it easier (remembering that old adage that rest days are just as important as running/training days). Hmm, easier said than done when there is another fun Wootervals session on again today, with the addition of the Magic Mile race beforehand....
