Running in the Rain

Ahhh, there is something SO refreshing, calming and peaceful about running in the summer rain. It's awesome. An added bonus is that the usually crowded riverside pathways are pretty much empty when there are the frequent Yiwu downpours. Which was the case this morning, while I went for a slow, easy paced 15km run in the rain. No music, not much people traffic, and no set pace to try to keep to: just running at the pace that I felt like through the drizzle to slightly heavyish rain. I have mentioned my dislike on here for running on the track in the rain, but out on the pavements and by the river is a different story.

Now, yesterday I made a couple of references to a classic song from my childhood, and one that I hadn't thought about in a very long time (until yesterday's email and confirmation of my 19th position at my last race). I didn't even know it's proper title or who sang it, but after a small search on trusty youtube, I've found that particular song! So, for your aural pleasure, well, maybe (and particularly those who don't know this song or didn't hear it as a kid) here it is: '19 Not Out' by The Commentators http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3bl4xaFZMM

Do you like to run in the rain? Do you do it anyway even if you're not a fan?

Did you hear this song as a child?

I don't mind running in the rain, but I don't really love it either. I don't like feeling soggy or having the rain in my eyes if it's coming down at a slant. I'm glad you had an awesome run in the rain though!!! I know it can be really refreshing at times!

It was pouring here yesterday evening too, with lots of lightning! When I got home I thought to take a 30 min nap to let the storm pass, and then I'd get up and go for my run. That little nap turned into sleeping the night away though! Oops!

Yikes, running in the lightening? No way. I can see why you'd opt for a nap option instead. Way to go! You must have needed the sleep hey, so that's awesome too (I often think that sleeping should count as our 'running training' too, as its so important to balance out the running and get enough rest, something I am pretty negligent of, oops...)

Yep, running with water coming sideways would be no fun either. Maybe I should clarify haha: I like running in the gentle, not too hard and definitely not sideways rain, let's just say, in the drizzle. :)

I enjoy the rain during warm weather. That cold weather rain is just miserable lol.

True story! I had temporarily forgotten about cold, miserable wet winter runs. They are not so good. :)

I have never heard that song, but I like the beat of it. I like anything I think I can run to lol Running in the rain is a hard call for me, I have been really ill a few times after running in the rain, but a few weeks I went w/run buddy and it was refreshing. It has been so hot it has been impossible to get outside so rain right now means things might cool a bit :)

Karen, for some reason that song used to crack me up as a kid and me and a friend would sing it on repeat (much to the annoyance of our folks at the time probably). :)
Oh no, rubbish that you got ill in the rain, that would definitely put me off. Glad you got a cooling/refreshing one in recently though! :)

I'm not really a big fan of running in the rain - I really don't like to get my shoes wet (or even dirty)!!!

Wow, then that's even more hardcore re: that trail half marathon from the other week! Muddy shoes and all! Good stuff :)

running in the rain has to be at the perfect intersection of my mood and the type of rain. i'm more likely to enjoy a drizzle than a steady rain. and if there is wind involve, no thank you!

so glad you had a great run!

Thanks Dawn! Yes, I agree - wind and rain = not fun to run in (or walk in, or be in).
