I don't know about you, but sometimes I look around at what other people are doing: with their running, in their businesses, in their lives in general, and I start to feel, well, not as successful as if I just focus on what I love doing and what I'm good at. They say that money is the root of all evil, well I reckon it should be 'comparisons are the root of all evil', or something like that... For example, take my business (no really, take it! lol... Sorry...): those that know me personally or have worked with me will know I am not the best businesswoman around. I am fairly rubbish at marketing / attracting traffic etc. I have my prices set too low (I haven't changed them since 2011). I am running a one-woman show, and am making many rookie/classic 'mistakes', I'm sure. However, I know I am honest. (Too honest sometimes? Friends joke about my lack of filter...) I know that all I want to do with it is transform people's lives / their habits / their diets, enabling as many people as possible to lead healthier lives and improving their running by eating good, real food (and giving up extreme diets or fads). I sincerely believe in  the advice and plans that I give and make, and they are not designed for a quick sale.

It seems there are so many others out there, offering various 'quick fix' services, or even, the many webinars and e-courses aimed at people just like me! (us 'solopreneurs' as is one of the terms), but when it comes down to it, they are, of course, aiming to make more money. Not that that's a terrible thing at all (and is a necessary fact of this life and system we are in at present) and some of them are obviously excelling at it, but that should not affect YOU and what YOU do, is the key point.

By comparing yourself to all the others out there, who are doing something a bit similar to you, but seem to have all their shit together and be hugely successful while doing it, well, how will that help you, really? Sure, research into what's currently happening in your chosen field is great and a wise idea, but it's all too easy to get overwhelmed with the various routes you could take, and that's just for marketing alone: which online platforms should you focus on, should you host your own webinars, do you need to create your own funnel, etc etc etc. SO many options, that ultimately take away your time from doing the thing you love and why you set the business up in the first place. Just like running or fitness or any chosen goal in your life: the only person you should be comparing yourself to and aiming to 'beat' is YOURSELF, from yesterday, from last year, from last week...

Focus on doing what you love, and being YOU. It sounds corny but, seriously: be yourself: everyone else is already taken! Do things your way and do them brilliantly or to the best of your ability. With business, with new ventures, with training for events and running races!!
Don't beat yourself up for never completing your endless 'to-do list' too. You can only do what you can do. Accept that you will never, ever get everything done, and be happy and grateful for where you are right now.

It's so important to remember that YOU get to decide how to live YOUR life. (I.e. how you spend you day, is how you spend/live your life.) Pick and choose the advice that resonates with you and that you like or trust, and forget the rest. Also, you can rewrite or change the script at any point, no questions asked. For me, I am going to keep on doing what I'm doing: the one-on-one nutrition coaching, the nutrition writing (despite yes, I still haven't completed the first e-book yet), the group/online month-long challenges, the occasional photo to instagram and fb....

However, some of these tasks may take precedence or conversely may have to go on hold at times: in the spirit of new adventures and of always learning, I have just commenced a Masters course that may take me on an entirely different path, or one that I can (hopefully) traverse simultaneously with my nutrition biz. I'm excited!! Although already spending Saturday nights reading and studying online. This, coupled with relocating/settling back into my favourite city, along with regular running training, has resulted in even less time for trying to 'fix' various tech issues and attempt to automate aspects of my business. Or even blog on time here. But hey-ho. That's ok. Like everything: progress not perfection!
