Happy Dragon Boat Festival!

Hello Hello from me, Puppy, and Husband (Husband not pictured as he is the resident cameraman)! Gotta love a public holiday courtesy of Dragon Boat Festival. The weather has turned it on for us too - hot and sunny days, with minimal pollution, yay. Got in a fairly challenging stair running workout (30x reps of our building with a few 100m recovery jogs chucked in) this morning followed by about 45 minutes of strength/weights. Great start to the day. Since then, we've been cruising around eating delicious things and drinking some of China's finest red (well, the finest is debatable, but we like it anyway).

Got my final email re: the race on Saturday. Apparently there is a 12 hour cut-off time!!! Shithouse. Hope I make it. Don't know what to expect really. Oh, and no plastic bottles allowed on the course apparently ,so that might be tricky. (I have a camelback but have lost the bladder which I guess is the most important part if you're using it for water! D'oh...)

In other news: this website is being really RUBBISH and not letting me reply to any comments today. So, sorry about that! Will reply as soon as this is fixed. How frustrating!

I hope everyone has had a great Monday!

Do you run with a camelback?? Do you think I should invest in a new one before I depart for Beijing on Thursday?? (My instinct is telling me 'yes', hmmm...)

Your puppy is so adorable and always looks so happy! You and the hubby must be really good pet parents :)

I think you will easily make the 12 hour cutoff! Think of all those stairs you've been running - this race will be a walk in the park for you! If I were you I would be really confident crossing the start line.

Are there lots of aid stations at the race? If there are, you might not need to buy a new bladder for your camelbak. It's probably a nice idea to do it though if you can find one!

Oh, thanks Kristina! We try and be good puppy parents. (Locals probably think we're cruel parents as she's pretty much the only dog we see who is on a lead - but there's too many near misses with the traffic and we don't want to lose her anytime soon!).

I hope so. I have fingers and toes crossed. :)

There are aid stations every 5-10kms apparently. Bit worried they won't allow plastic bottles on the course though - the shop I was aiming to get one at is either closed down or doesn't open early enough in the morning when I tried today.)

Watch this space! :)

That is awesome, thank you!!! Felt good reading the article as lots of bits felt like they were describing my running history and training that I've done for this race, phew, so, am glad am on the right track! The only thing that may be a big hinderence (well, not the only thing, but a big one anyway) will be thefact that I haven't had any opportunity to train on different surfaces or trails yet. Oh well. Lots of practice doing so on Saturday hey! :)

I have a camel back but for my last 50 (attempt) I used a belt with 2 water bottles and like it much better.
I'm all about the Festival and wine!!!

Kim, I bought the camelback for snowboarding originally, and then used it for cycling to work, and now have dragged it out of storage to give it a new life, but alas it is bladder-less (so, just a small backpack). If I can get a belt and small bottles in time (maybe when I get to Beijing), I will try that option hey! The camelback gives me raw,red skin where it rubs on my neck ,which isn't fun...

Festivals and wine are ALWAYS welcome in my book! :)

You will something for hydration for sure! You can handle the 12 hour cut off- your speed amazes me and I know that's not the point of the ultra...but I bet you will cruise for a hunk of it! Rest up :) Cheers!

Thanks so much Karen!! I ended up getting a replacement bladder for my old camelback backpack, phew, so a bit more prepared/relaxed now. Thanks!! :)
