Check out the size of those beans. Runner beans (haha, so, pretty apt, yes?) I know, I look sort of disgusted with them, but fear not, this is clearly my I'm-so-in-awe-at-the-size-of-these-beans look. Just to put it in perspective, here are those same beans using a handily positioned banana for scale:

Fricken huge, gargantuan beans! Whilst I'm not usually one to photograph what I'm cooking or eating, these bean photos somehow led to a further couple of photos on this particular arvo: my raw ingredients, followed by the finished product. Et voila!:

A bit blurry, but you get the idea. SUPER healthy, although nowhere near as amazingly tasty as Husband's chef-like creations.

Not much running to report as yet this week. Traded my easy paced 9.66km yesterday morning for some yoga, and skipped the early morning track run today. Noooooo! So now I'll be playing catch up and aiming to fit the run in at some point today. We have a two hour siesta in between classes today, so there's a possibility there, or otherwise the night time session is on the cards. It has finally stopped raining (for now anyway) so that will be an added bonus.

Enjoy your Tuesday everyone! Tell me, who does most of the cooking in your house? Do you like to cook? (I like to, but I'm usually more of the short-order breakfast cook, specialising in stuff-on-toast or sandwiches. Husband is so much better at the fancy meals.)

holy beans batman!!!! those are super impressive!

my hubby also loves to tackle the "big project" meals. he loves planning to have company and then cooking them something special. he has a few default meals that he does, but they are all labor intensive and terrible to clean up from :)

i like to cook quick and (not so) dirty meals. salads...toast...eggs :)

Ahh yes, the clean up! Least favourite part about cooking (especially if its someone else's mess haha)...

I agree - easy, non-dirty meals are the way to go!

Cheers, Dawn.

D'oh - meant 'Cheers Dawn - from Lou' - looks like I've adopted your identity there, oops! Very tired....

Holy cow, those beans are unreal! I love that you cook with all fresh ingredients. I admit to cooking with frozen vegetables a lot, although I do use fresh mushrooms a lot. I like to put mushrooms in just about everything!

Neither Adam nor I really *love* to cook so we actually eat out way too much. When we eat in we usually make something super simple and quick like turkey or chicken tacos.

Frozen veggies are still great hey! Think in some cases they're better (depending on how fresh the 'fresh' veggies are at the supermarket) as they snap freeze all the nutrients in.

LOVE mushrooms. There's always room for a mush-room. :)

We eat out a lot here too - most Chinese families eat out every night we think, it's rare for them to cook at home daily. Interesting hey. :)

Those beans are ginormous!!! I do most of the cooking but Chris is actually a pretty good cook, too. I like the boys to see him cooking - good for them to know that men cook, too!

It's great for them to know that men cook too, haha. Glad Chris is a good cook too.

Yeah, over here in China, it's usually the men who do all the cooking/cheffing and not the women. :)

Do you find that most of your meals in China are fairly healthy? That food looks amazing - I always love stir-fries and salads that have a lot of color. My husband does most of the cooking in our household - the kitchen is his sanctuary. I primarily cook when he is away because he loves it too much to let me take control. :)

I agree Kristen - the more colourful, the better! That's great that your husband loves to cook. Must be a talented husband thing (mine does too), and in China its normal for the husband to do the cooking and not the wife, if they are at home. Most people eat out daily though, it seems. Loads of local neighbourhood restaurants.

Most of our melas are healthy, but they do use a fair bit of oil when cooking veg sometimes. And there are so many tasty fried street-food treats that I guess are not that healthy either. I don't know, what do you reckon re: dumplings and beer? That's a favourite meal of ours (I like to think of it as carb loading if its before a long run.) I do think most of the food we eat is awesomely healthy and fresh though. For example, if we go out for a few beers then our snacks to go with them is usually a plate of fresh cucumber in chilli and soy marinade, fresh soy beans (edamame), and possibly some maninated peanuts or pickles. A world away from the greasy bar snacks we'd have back in Oz!
I think the thing that surprised me the most after we came here was just how fresh and different the food is, compared to the Chinese food served in Australia, where it tends to be the same brown or sweet and sour sauce with everyone and lots if battered and deep fried (fried rice, spring rolls etc). We haven't seen too many of those dishes here in this province.
